Some years ago, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright celebrated the mass death of half a million Iraqi childen in the embargo on Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. She gloated and reveled in her role as a mass murderer in a way that the greatest mass murderers of the 20th century, the marxists Josef Stalin and Mao Tsetung, never dreamed of. She chuckled that the death of half a million children “was worth it”. However, both marxist mass murderers posed as the friends of children. In one notable instance, Stalin posed for a poster celebrating children with some kids, almost immediately after having their parents executed for some kind of forgotten thought crime or another. But Madeleine Albright was something new.
For all Albright’s bestial glee at the mass murder of Iraqi children, only some dissidents were outraged. There was no mass media campaign of vilification like they run 24/7 these days. Just silence. And respect. Madeleine Albright even played a very prominent role in the Hillary Clinton campaign for President in 2016, speaking at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Since it didn’t matter to the powerful. (Hillary’s ecstasy at the rape-murder of Qadhafi was a window into her soul.) And maybe it did not matter to most Americans: To this day, most do not even know.
But the institutional evil empires do does not stay abroad. England today is facing extinction at the hands of settler colonialists from the former empire, many with genocidal hatred in their hearts. And now Jane Fonda, taking a moment away from Biden fundraisers for some philosophical reflection, has celebrated coronavirus for crippling the Trump Administration. Jane cheerfully observes that the death of 215,000 Americans …
was worth it.
